To sacrifice a....Cat?!

I went to my friend Christina's blog and was very impressed by how she shares her thoughts and flaws and puts it all out there. i was also very amused by an anecdote she posted about her daughter ( see here ) And it reminded me of a conversation I had with Mikey a few months ago that I had thought was so funny that i actually wrote it down intending to blog about it on Myspace. but I never got around to it so here it is and if you enjoy it...well, thank Christina!

October 2007- Today during Bible in homeschool Mikey asked me why Jesus is called the Lamb of God. Pretty good question, I thought, and so launched in to an explanation ( as far as I understand it anyways)
I explained how in Bible times, like during the lifetime of Abraham, Jesus hadn't yet died on the Cross for our sins, so people had to sacrifice animals to atone for their sins. The kind of animal used in the sacrifice would sometimes correspond to the sin. For instance a dove or other bird might be sacrificed for a lesser sin while a more "badder" sin might require a goat, bull or even a lamb. ( according to my incomplete understanding. I suppose i could be wrong, but this is how i have understood it anyway :) )
The person who sinned would take the animal to the priest and the priest would kill the animal and the blood of the animal would fall on the alter and they would be forgiven ( or something like that)
I went on to explain that Jesus was perfect and sinless and that when he died on the Cross for us, and shed His blood for us he became the sacrifice. He took the place of the animals who were sacrificed and His blood covered the sin of anyone who would believe in Him and call on Him. So that is one reason why He is called The Lamb of God.
Now, this is all pretty complex for a (then) six year old and so I did what i always do when we cover something complicated in school- I had him repeat it back to me like he is teaching me so I know if he understood and retained the information...and this is what i got back:
"Ok, so, um..A long time ago back when Abraham Lincoln was the President we used to have to sacrifice animals ..."
I stopped him, trying to hold back my laughter and explained that Abraham Lincoln and Abraham in the bible were two different people that lived during very different times...
So we got past that and I asked him to continue and he gave me his take on what i had explained...
He told me how what kind of animal needed to be sacrificed sometimes depended on what kind of sin was commited
"So, if you told a lie or something like that, then, ummm... you might have to sacrifice, like a dove or something like that. But if you got on orange in school (ok, last year he was in public school and the discipline method was pulling cards, green, yellow, orange, and then red was for big big trouble) then I think you'd hafta sacrifice, like a lamb...cuz that's real bad and lambs are all cute and fluffy and white. It's Ok to kill a goat though, cuz it has the horns and i don't like goats, on account a the horns....
Now if you got on red though, you might hafta sacrifice a cat, and they're real nice and fluffy so that would be sad."

I had to dismiss school early and go put my head under a pillow and laugh. Seriously. LOL

Happy Birthday Grandpa Mike!!

That pretty much says it all!!

Mikey-fest

The last few posts have been very Joshua-centric so I thought it was time to have a Mikey-fest!!
here is my handsome boy playing with his transformers!

hey- this is complicated stuff!

Mom! Shhhh- I'm focusing, here...

Woo-Hoo- I did it!

K- So, I just have to brag on Mikey a little. He folds all the laundry now, and he does a really good job! I haven't folded a load of laundry in going on three months! YAY for child- labor!

Hahaha- Mom is so silly!

Mikey took a video of Joshua and me being silly ...ha ha ha I am more of a dork than I realized :) ROTFL
Hopefully when my boys grow up they will remember these moments instead of the ones where I lose my temper and yell a lot! LOL
I have to remember to do this more often. It shouldn't be so shocking to them when Mama plays with them , KWIM?
I have zero makeup on in this and look really bad, but we had fun so what the hey- you wouldn't be looking at this blog if you didn't love us...and if you love us, you won't judge, right?!!

hanging out around the house

Just some fun times at home!

Sound effects make all the difference :)

I don't know who I love more... Mater or Lightning.

Awwwww- my boys!

Mater- Definitely Mater!

I love to hang out with my daddy!

Man- I can really play the harmonica!!

Just call me Cole Fonseca!

Oy with the See Noke already!!

When my parents came out to visit over Christmas they bought the boys these really cool cups with a straw built in. The problem is that Joshua soon discovered that if you blow into the straw the beverage will fly up through the air hole and splatter all over everything in the vicinity...which is very amusing to a two year old! I got him a cup of soy milk ( see noke in joshua language) and when i walked away he blew it up like a whale spouting out his blowhole! Usually he gets in big trouble for this, but for some reason I found it incredibly amusing this time as well...So i grabbed the camera and we laughed about it together...then I tossed hm in the tub!

Hee Hee- i blow see noke bub-bubles!!

See Noke got Meeeeeeee...

So I'm not in trouble, then?

Lets Go fly A Kite!

This last week I ( Melissa) had to work. I was hired by a new Christian music label to get a concert routine ready for one of their artists. She lives in Seattle and flew out to learn the stuff. Since she was from out of town I spent pretty much the whole week with her in a rented dance studio space in Colleyville. The boys had to go to a babysitter's house. My friend who watched them a few of the days lives out in the country and thay had a blast! When i arrived to pick them up one day they were out flying kites!!

Lets go fly a kite!

I got da stick mama!

Ohhhhhh- da kite is up mama- up up!!

Joshua tries to fly the kite too!

enough of this kite buisness- i gots work to do!

Oh No!!! Mkey's kite gets stuck in the trees!

Awwwwww- Poor Mikey :)

Woo-Hooo- now we're talking!

How pretty!

On the way home i was stuck in traffic and so took a few pics to amuse myself!

He's so cute!

All that stick waving, marching around, and messing with kites done tuckered him right out!

A Whole New Milestone!

So after years of celebrating each tooth that comes in and then making sure that no blunt object convinces said tooth to relinquish it's position in the mouths of my children I have to switch gears...
A few days ago Mikey was at the table eating a burrito when he suddenly jumped up and ran to the bathroom. He came out completely elated and announced that he had a loose tooth! This was very big news to him as he has been waiting for almost a year to get his first loose tooth. Last year in kindergarten there were quite a few children who lost their teeth and he was so envious of the whole process....getting to wiggle the tooth and gross people out, getting to tuck the tooth under the pillow and await the treasures from the Tooth Fairy. He just couldn't wait. I told him not to get his hopes up though, because i was in 2nd or 3rd grade before i lost my first tooth.
Thankfully, however, he didn't have to wait that long and so we danced and jumped around the hallway and celebrated the loose tooth. We also called a lot of friends and family to announce our happy event.
He wiggled, pushed, and pulled his little tooth for three days until finally it surrendered and came out. He tried to convince his Papa in Ca that the pain made it worth a hundred dollars at least! But somehow that didn't fly...can't imagine why not?!!

Mikey shows his new smile :D

A close up!

Mama- take my pit-ture too!!! Cheeeeeeeeeeese :)

Snow much fun!!!

So there's this saying here in Texas that "If you don't like the weather...wait 20 minutes, it's bound to change. " There's a lot of truth to that as one day it can be 65 degrees and sunny and the next we can get 6 inches of snow!

The boys try to build a snowman...but it was more like a snow baby :)

Jay and Joshua enjoy the snow...well, jay is enjoying it anyways...

The next day we went back out and managed to have a great
time playing in what snow was left! Now in our yard it was all used to
create our fabulous snow people so it looks like it all melted away,
but there was quite a bit left!

We actually created a little army of tiny snow people if you
look at the lowerleft hand corner of the picture you'll see
that they were starting to take over the yard!

Mikey shows off his new and improved snowman

The snow baby from yesterday was in sad shape so Joshua
gave him some TLC

Joshua worked and improved the snow baby :) he might
have had a little help with the "hat"

Hmmmm...thats a nice snowman Mikey... he just needs a little
touch up riiiiiiight here!

He needs a face! Its an Amish snowman!

Nothing like teamwork!! Well, the boys managed to use
up all the snow in our yard for their snow men so we had
to go inside and have hot cocoa!

Here we go!

Since my family refuses to go to Myspace and see my blogs and the pics of the kids there I decided to join my friends Kara and Danielle in blogging here! So now my family can get updates about what we are all up to! I am not very good at this site yet, so bear with me until i figure it all out and get the hang of customizing it!
